University of California, Berkeley
The University of California Golden Bears will forever be remembered for one of the most famous plays in college football history. In “The Play” on November 20, 1982, Cal overcame rival Stanford in “The Big Game” by returning a kick-off in the final seconds with the aid of a series of improbable laterals. But that’s only part of the Golden Bears’ athletic legacy that includes 96 team titles and unique campus traditions like the Big C and the Victory Cannon.

Style Facts:
Cal’s school colors of blue and gold were chosen in 1873 by a student committee. Yale Blue was first chosen due to the fact that UC-Berkeley was established by Yale graduates, though the shade was darkened to match the Pacific Ocean. And since California is known as the “Golden State,” gold was a natural choice.
